Imagine a situation where a person has to attend an
official party with his colleagues. He fears of how to dress to avoid
the attention of other people there. He even realizes that nobody
would actually care about his dress-up. Yet he believes that all
would frame an opinion about him in their mind. A series of negative
thoughts starts haunting his mind. Attending the party would mentally
thwart his social action.
As per psychologists and physicians social anxiety is the least
understood 'anxiety disorder' of all. People develop fear in themselves
of been observed and evaluated, which makes them uncomfortable social
creature. A feeling of self-consciousness is developed. This may
happen in a market or a social gathering where there are many people
around. The patient of anxiety disorder will believe that everybody
is watching him/her. It makes the person feel embarrassed and forces
him/her to stay behind closed door most of the time.
People suffering with social anxiety disorder can be labeled as "schizophrenic", "manic-depressive", "clinically
depressed", "panic disordered", and "personality
disordered".
Some of the general experiences of social anxiety disorder problem:

- Being watched while doing something
- Being introduced to other people
- Being teased or criticized
- Meeting people important people who possesses a dignity
- Social encounters, particularly with strangers
- Making "small talk" at parties
So how do one finds respite from all this? Till date cognitive-behavioral
therapy is the only treatment that has been shown to work effectively.
And many people are taking help of medication along with behavioral
therapy to overcome this problem. It is largely observed that social
anxiety is a life time problem. And people who do not fight this
disorder bravely have to cope with it all through their life.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder : Generalized Anxiety Disorder
(GAD) is a condition when people always tends to expect worst while
dealing issues like money, family, work or health. This anxiety can
happen in a normal person time to time especially when they are expecting
results of their doing.
But in people suffering from GAD this happens even when there are
no signs of trouble. Expectancy of bad result can bring anxiety in
any normal human being. But patients of GAD will always think that
the worst is going to happen. It is a critical condition and reduces
the potential of a person in excess.
GAD is characterized by 6 months or more of tension and worry, which
is usually baseless. GAD is quite common in general population. A
majority of people suffers from GAD at some point of their life.
Social Anxiety Disorder: Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) also
known as 'social phobia' is a condition where a person feels nervous
and afraid against day to day social activities. A fear of everyday
social situation makes such people very difficult to perform daily
activities smoothly.
There are certain symptoms that evaluate the SAD condition in a
person. Whenever a person develops a fear of embarrassment without
any reason or when he\she starts avoiding social situations - regularly - it
can be termed as SAD syndrome. These also include physical symptoms
like sweating, trembling, blushing, nausea and rapid heart beat.
Social Anxiety Disorder is a prevalent situation in US. Several people
suffer from SAD without even knowing about it. Psychopathic treatment
is implemented for the treatment of such patients.
